In cricket betting, a session is a fixed-over block within a match — the first 6 overs, the first 10, the first 15, or the complete innings. A session market is a YES/NO wager on the total runs scored within that block.
The bookmaker analyses conditions and sets a line — a predicted run total. You decide whether the actual score will be above (YES) or below (NO) that line. The market closes when the relevant overs are complete and settles instantly based on the final score.
Session markets are different from match-winner bets because they are independent of the result — a team can lose the match but you still win your session bet if they scored more than the line in the powerplay.

The most-traded session market in Indian cricket betting. Covers overs 1–6 when only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. Run rates are typically high, making this a lively YES/NO market with lots of movement.
Covers the first half of a T20 innings. By over 10 you have the powerplay data, pitch behaviour, and team momentum — which gives you more information to make an informed call than the pure powerplay bet.
Covers the innings including the first death over phase (13–15). At 15 overs you can see exactly where the game is going — but aggressive batting at this stage creates significant variance. One big over can swing the result.
The full-innings session, called "lambi paari" (long innings) on Indian betting platforms. You bet on the team's complete total — the entire 20 overs in T20, or all 50 in ODI. Rates are tighter and variance is highest, making this better for experienced bettors.
Session betting uses a simple fractional payout. The bookmaker offers two rates — one for YES and one for NO. These are always set so that the combined implied probability slightly exceeds 100%, giving the house its 3–5% margin.
In a perfectly balanced market both YES and NO would pay 1.00 (break-even for the house). In practice, the two rates always sum to slightly less than 2.00 — typically 1.97–1.98 — accounting for the book's margin.
Common rate pairs you'll see live: 0.97 / 1.03, 0.96 / 1.04, 0.95 / 1.05. The further a rate is from 1.00, the more the market is pricing risk on that side.
This also means you can lock in profits — if you took YES at 1.03 and the team races to 40 in 3 overs, the NO rate may now be 0.92 while YES has moved to 1.10. Placing a hedging NO bet at that point guarantees a profit regardless of the final score.
